Handy GPS - Route Following
Last updated Oct 2016
You can create a route by selecting the first waypoint from the waypoints list and then choosing the "Make route" option.
For example, to create a route from the waypoint "car" to "bridge" to "waterfall",
you would first select "car" from the waypoints menu and use the "Make route" option to set a route to "bridge" and then "waterfall". Finally press the "Done" option at the top of the list to create the route. This would create the route: car -> bridge -> waterfall.
Once you have created a route, you can use the Goto page to automatically direct you from one to the next.
To enable this, first open the preferences page and turn on the "Switch to next waypoint in route when getting close to current waypoint" option. Also make sure an appropriate proximity distance is set (the default is 50 metres).
Now, when you goto the first waypoint in the route ("car" in this example), you will be directed towards the waypoint, but when you are within the proximity distance of the waypoint, the goto page will automatically switch to the next waypoint
in the route ("bridge" in this example), and so on until you reach the end of the route. If you have the audible proximity alert enabled, you will also hear this as you approach each waypoint.
Once you reach your final destination, you can choose to follow the route in reverse by selecting the "Toggle route direction" option from the goto page's menu.
This menu also has options to manually switch to the next and previous waypoints along a route.
There are currently a few limitations with route following: (1) The route will not be saved when you export your data to a KML or GPX file and do a "delete all";
(2) If you rename one of the waypoints along the route, then the route will be broken since each waypoint is linked to the next and previous waypoints by their names only;
(3) Route following is not supported on the watch version of the app yet; and (4) Route following requires the app to be using the new data model (Check out the topic "What if custom symbols don't work ?").
