Handy GPS - Web Based Tracking

Last updated Nov 2018

The paid versions of Handy GPS for Android have a "web based tracking" feature which can be used to automatically share your current location with friends while you're on a walk.

This feature works by sending a small packet of data containing your location to a cloud-based database once a minute, so requires an internet connection and cellular data. For privacy, this option is turned off by default, and when enabled your location can only be seen by people you choose to share it with. Also, an asterisk (*) is shown in the app title bar on the main page to remind you when this feature is enabled.

To set it up, select the "Web based tracking" option on the main menu of Handy GPS, press the "Manage account" button, and sign up for a free account using your email address.

Once you have registered, you can enter your User ID and Sharing PIN in the app. You can also optionally enter the ID and PIN of a friend, then you will see them as a red figure on the map page, labelled with their name.

You can email family or friends a link to the web page that shows your live location, or if they also have the app, they can enter your ID and sharing PIN and see you in the map in Handy GPS on their phone too.
