Richter's Caves

Richter's Caves Flora Reserve is near Red Hill Road in Ourimbah State Forest. It consists of a massive block of sandstone which has a number of overhangs and caves around its perimeter.

But who was J.E.Richter ? There is a farm up Chandlers Creek on the old parish maps for Ourimbah. Its portion 83 and has the name Samuel Richter on it. This is quite close to Richter's Caves.

This obituary in the SMH 2nd June 1913, may be for the same J.E.Richter:
RICHTER.-May 31, 1913, at Prince Alfred Hospital,
Sydney, John Ernest Richter, late of Wyong, be-
loved husband of Jenny Richter, aged 73 years. In-
vercargill (N.Z.) paper, please copy.
He was born in Saxony Germany in 1840 (see http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Richter-254)

He also had a patent according to the Australian Town and Country Journal of 9 Sep 1899:
No. 9531. John Ernest Richter, Wyong, N.S.W. : Im
provements in felloe-saws, or machines for cutting out
felloes and other curved articles. August 22.
He also wrote an article about Jenolan Caves, and he was a friend of Leichhardt.
