Supplement to "Discovering Yengo & Dharug NPs on foot"

Mt Yengo walk: John Bowen's property Big Yango which provides access to Mt Yengo has been bought out by the NPWS. This may lead to easier future access for bushwalkers. (See the NPWS precinct plan for this area)
Bicentennial Road: The bicentennial road links up Wisemans Ferry with Colo Heights - this is a useful car shuffle route for a multi-day Macdonald River walk.

Starting at the township of Wisemans Ferry, drive to the Webbs Creek Ferry and cross the river. Set your car's trip meter to zero. Turn left into Webbs Creek road and then at 0.8 km, turn right into the Bicentennial Road. At 15.3 km, turn right into Wheelbarrow Ridge Rd. When your trip meter reads 35.8 km you should reach the Putty Road at Colo Heights. Turn right and drive north along Putty Road to reach the Colo Heights service station.
Mogo campground to Circuit Flat Bridge: There is a good track between Mogo campground and Circuit Flat Bridge. The sign at the campground says "Walking Track Not Completed", however the track is indeed easily walkable. Most of the walk is along old 4WD tracks. Perhaps this is an old sign, or perhaps it means that the track has not been fully signposted.
Using this track you can do a good round-trip from the campground, along this track to Circuit Flat Bridge, and return by following the Old Great North Road north until it joins Mogo Creek Road. When you reach Mogo Creek Road, turn left and the campground is only about 400 metres downhill. Total walk distance is about 5 km.

Old Great North Road: A new section of the Old Great North Road has recently been excavated from the undergrowth on the road leading from Bucketty to the Mogo campsite, about 2km from the camp. New interpretive signs have also been erected.
Mt Olive to Glenworth Valley: This is quite a good trail which starts just below Mt Olive and heads along a ridge to the horse riding yards and kiosk at Glenworth Valley. You can see a map of this route here.
Page 81, first aid: The current recommended treatment for snake bite is to apply an elasticised pressure bandage, not a crepe bandage. The elasticised bandages are much more effective at reducing poison movement.
Pages 44-47, Mt Simpson track: The Mt Simpson track has been locked by the landholders whose land it passes through. However, the Boree Track can still be reached from further north near Laguna (Yengo Creek Road). The Boree Track route to Devil's Rock (Burragurra) is 21km of dirt road, the second half of which is quite rough and only suitable for 4WD vehicles.
Pages 72-73, Popran Track: The last paragraph should be ignored. It is not possible to access Popran Creek from the Peats Ridge Road end of this 4WD trail since it crosses private property. The only access is from the Ironbark Road end.
Pages 75-76, Big Jims Point: The second paragraph says "Several hundred metres past this point a trail turns off to the left", however this trail now has a "Private property" sign on it. To avoid crossing private property find a walking trail which turns off on the left about 85 metres north of the overpass bridge (lat/lon location -33.4757166, 151.189275). Also please note that the last 500 metres of the trail to Big Jims Point shown on the sketch map on page 76 crosses private property. Please shorten this walk so as not to trespass on this land. Check the topographic map or Google Maps for the national park boundary.
Page 37, Howes Range: An alternative route to Howes Range is from the sign-posted Howes Range Fire Trail which turns off Putty Road about 3 km north of the 4WD track described as access for this walk. The advantage of this trail is that it cuts about 1 km off the distance and does not pass through private property. If travelling along this trail, follow it east until it crosses the powerline and then turn left. Follow it up the hill for about 400 metres and then turn right at the ridge top. Keep following the main trail for about 4 km from the Putty Road and then turn sharp left. At this point you join up with the route described in the book.
